Civil Services(Preliminary) Examination

The Union Public Service Commission conducts a preliminary test for recruiting candidates for the different posts in the Civil Services. The posts are the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian P & T Accounts & Finance Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) Group ‘A’, Indian Defence Accounts Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Revenue Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Ordnance Factories Service, Group ‘A’ (Assistant Works Manager, Non-technical), Indian Postal Service, Group ‘A’ and etc.

Eligibility

There are a few criteria that need to be fulfilled to take this exam. The candidate has to be 21 years of age. The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university with Physics and Mathematics as their compulsory subjects in 10+2 levels or Bachelor of Engineering or Technology.

Selection Procedure

The applications are first accepted for the preliminary examinations only. After succeeding in this, they are eligible to appear for the Main Examination. The Commission declares the names of the selected candidates and then arranges for a main examination for them, for which they will have to fill a detailed examination form.

Important Dates

The Main Examination was held on October/November, 2009. This year the preliminary exam was held on 17th May, 2009.
