Indian Railway Examinations

The Indian Railways has been a special attraction among the job seekers as the facilities offered are delectable. This department is divided into several divisions, each performing a particular task. All these technical and non technical divisions form the complete base of the railways. These include the telecom, mechanical, civil, signaling, accounts, security and traffic, railway protection force etc.

Recruitment in these departments is done through competitive examinations according to the level specified by the railways ranging from Group A- the highest to Group D-the lowest.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria vary according to the post. For instance, if you are applying for the post of Accounts Clerk, matriculation degree is required, whereas for the post of Junior Accounts Assistant the candidate should be a graduate with a typing speed of 30 wpm in English and 25 wpm in Hindi. Age limit for the above two posts is 18 to 27 years. An age limit of 20 to 35 years has been listed for Apprentice Signal Inspector along with a degree of B.E (Electro/Elect/Telecom). Selection Procedure

For recruitment to Group A, competitive examination is conducted by the UPSC. The Group B officers are recruited through promotion from Group C. For the posts belonging to Group C competitive examinations are held by the Railway Recruitment Board. A written examination is conducted on basis of which shortlisted candidates are called for interviews. Final result is assessed as a total of the marks obtained in the written test and the interview.

Important Date

Date of the examination varies according to the post. Date of examination held by the Railway Recruitment Board differs from that held by the UPSC.
