Special Class Railway Apprentice
The main reason behind the rush of students toward vocational education is an easy chance to grab jobs as the vocational educational courses train the students according to the job requirements and thus getting a job becomes easier then.
Special Class Railway Apprentice offers such a course. Students are selected for an undergraduate program in mechanical engineering from the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. The education is totally free here and the students are paid a monthly stipend. After the completion of the course, the students are directly absorbed in the Railway Organization as Class I officers.
Eligibility Criteria
To appear in the examination held for an admission in SCRA course, the candidate must fulfill the following criteria:
• He must be an Indian citizen.
• The age of the candidate should be between 17 and 21 years and the upper limit is relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates.
• He must have passed the intermediate or equivalent examination in the first or second division with Mathematics and as a minimum Physics or Chemistry as the papers of examination.
Selection Procedure
An application form is issued by the UPSC which is required to be filled up and sent by the aspiring candidates. A written examination is conducted of 600 marks that consist of General Ability Test, Physical Sciences and Mathematics as the papers of examination. Each paper is allotted a time of 2 hours. Candidates declared qualified on the results of the written test need to undergo a personal interview of 200 marks then. Finally 10 students are selected.
