West Bengal Public Service Commission exam
West Bengal Public Service Commission exam is an entrance exam for the recruitment of candidates to various civil service posts across the state.
Plan Of examination:
The WBCS Examination is held in two stages.
1. Preliminary Examination (Objective type)
2. Main Examination (Conventional written type) and Personality Test.
Candidates selected on the basis of their successful result completion at the preliminary Examination are allowed to sit for the Main entrance Exam and those who are selected at this level too are then finally called for the personality test. Successful results at all the three stages are required for a candidate to be selected for WBCS services.
The preliminary exam is held in many parts of the state including the hilly areas but the main Exam is held only in Kolkata during the later part of the same year.
Grouping of services:
The WBCS services are treated as a combined service Exam for a number of posts and government services across the state. For convenience it has been broadly divided in four Groups “A”, “B”, “c” and “D”.
A candidate may compete for one or more groups but he/she is required to submit one application only indicating choice of group(s).
There are different salary scales and different posts in each and individual groupings.
Eligibility criterion:
The candidate should not be below the age of 21 and above 32 for application to this examination on 1st January of the year of Examination and posts included for this age limit is in Group A B Coffer application to West Bengal Police Service only i.e. for Group B services age limit Is not below 20 years and above 32 years on 1st January of the year of Examination.
Qualification required for this Exam is that the candidate the candidate should have a bachelors degree in any discipline from any recognized University and he/ she should be able to read, write and speak in Bengali(not applicable for candidates who are from hilly areas of Darjeeling i.e. not for Nepali speaking candidates.)
